Can I volunteer in a pet store or kennel?

August 302009

I’m ten years old (everyone say that I’m very mature for my age) And I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to volunteer in a pet store or kennel. I contacted petco and asked if i could volunteer, but they said i had to be 18. Any stores or kennels I could volunteer in?
P.S I live in Fairfield County, I perfer it to be within 10 miles

I was exactly like you when I was 10 years old. If you really want to be a volunteer, try to help vets by bringing them what they need, selling food instead of them and Be Polite!
But never ask for money! You want to be a volunteer, not to work there!

How much time (per day) do you spend, taking care of your Pet(s)?

August 302009

I take care of my pets 24/7!! If not physically, then mentally!! As they have aged, they no longer need the training, the walking, the playing and the mental stimulation for obedience training! Now the time is spent in keeping them clean, comfortable, and trying to keep them fed as they no longer seem to have much of an appetite! I hand feed one of them as he will not eat on his own and I cook almost all of their meals from scratch! I would not give up these moments and these memories for anything! Nice Question!

Why does my 9 month old puppy sit on other dogs and people?

August 302009

If someone is sitting down he will try to sit on them. He also sits on other dogs.

In packs a dominate dog or wolf will sit on another as a sign that it is the dominate one, this can be carried into domestic dogs, of course it might just be overly friendly lol.

Doggy Daycare & Pet Resort?

August 302009

I desperately want to open a pet sitting service in the basement of my home ( I also have an acre & 1/2 for fun and playtime). My love for pets is so great, I think this really is my calling. A recent closure of the only "parrot" store in the area also leads me to believe that I can provide a safe and knowledgable avenue for parrot-parents when boarding their birds as well.

My question is how do I come up with the money to finish the basement and outfit it with the necessities I need. I dont have the credit necessary for a loan and dont want to put it on credit cards for the obvious reason. Are there any angel groups or investors for this type of venture?

Thank you!

You can get a start-up business grant. Do some research online to find out how to apply. Before you do this, make sure you’re allowed to have this type of business in your neighborhood, and ask your neightbors if they mind the noise from barking dogs and squaking parrots.

How should I start up my neighborhood dog walking/pet sitting business?

August 302009

I’m 17and moved to my new neighborhood last summer.
There is about 300 houses, so I’m expecting a decent amount of customers. I work at a kennel and have pets of my own, so I am very experienced.

Do you think my new neighbors will trust me with their pets?
How do I advertise?
What rates should I charge?

the initial formula on what to charge
is rather simple;

my method is an income statement upside down and all the acct professor’s say it
is the most logical thing they have ever
seen, and I created it 35 yrs ago.]

a; what you feel you want to put in your pocket
b. plus the taxes that would be due
c. plus your costs to provide the service
d. plus the costs to get the word out.
—add all those up. then figure out how many clients you hope to have in the
first 30 days.

if all your costs and profit totals 200, for example, and you hope to handle 12 dogs in that period of time by charging
200/12=16.5. YOU would need to charge
each owner, $16.50 to provide your service. [not commenting on the number of
hours].

all businesses use this formula if they
have a specific amount of money they
need to net [pocket] each month. if
unsure what they need to net,
they then, turn the formula over and
just guess at revenue and expenses,
and whatever remains is their pocket
money [profits.]

If I put my cat into a boarding house for 3 weeks while i go overseas, will i need to keep her inside again?

August 302009

When i first got her as an adult, i kept her inside for 2 months before letting her outside so she would get to know the smell of the house and know her way home when the time came to let her outside. Will i need to do that again or will she automatically realise she is home and know her way around the neighbourhood straight away?

Is there any possibility that you could make her an indoor kitty full time? Some of the reasons for that decision are dogs, cars, other cats, nasty kids, poison and anti freeze drippings on her paws, and more. She doesn’t need to go outside at all.

Get her a litter box and spayed and keep her in the house. You will enjoy a long life with a very calm and lovable kitty.

Thanks for asking ;-) )

Dog-Sitting?

August 302009

If your roomate had a pet, let’s say a dog, and you were going out of town with your roomate for a week….Would you ask one of your friends who lived in an apartment, had a dog of her own (as well as a cat) and worked full time to keep your roomates dog for the week free of charge?

Oh, and this said hypothetical dog is NOT potty trained, whines all the time and has issues being alone. This friend lives alone, and works long days (will be working all but one of the days while these people are on vacation).
I am the FRIEND being asked in this situation, I’m mainly asking because I feel slightly taken advantage of in the situation and I’m looking to see if I’m justified in my feeling this way.

Your feelings are your feelings and you are justified in feeling any way that you do. Now that I’m done with the psychology lesson, let me answer your question:

Your friend probably thought you were a good person to ask because you obviously love animals and she has probably observed that you take good care of your pets–take it as a compliment. BUT, it was presumptive of her to ask you to do it for free. When I go out of town, I have someone who watches my dogs, and she charges $25 a day, and that is pretty much the going rate. Personally, I wouldn’t take your friend’s dog even for pay–he will ruin your apartment if he is not housebroken, and you recognize the problem with leaving him alone all day while you work. You are certainly not obligated to dog sit–you can say no, but phrase it in such as a way as to not lose your friend. Just say that you don’t think it would be best for the dog since you’re going to be working so much and the dog needs more attention than you can give him. If she tries to insist, just insist all the more that the poor dog deserves better, and wish her luck in finding someone else. Then change the subject, say you are so busy and have to go, and make your escape!

Pet boarding in the Hershey, PA area?

August 302009

I am looking to board a dog for a few days in the Hershey, PA area. Does anyone have a suggestions? I am a bit picky in where to take my dog, so I am hoping I can find one that compares to PetSmart’s Dog Hotel.

Ask your dog’s vet for a recommendation.

But isn’t there a pet sitting service [professional or your neighbor's kid] that you can use? Your dog will be happier in its own home.

Has anyone experience of Homesitters/pet sitters-advise please?

August 302009

I am looking for a few weeks house sitting or pet sitting on the south coast, are there any ‘free’ house sitter web sites that you know of and recomend – my thanks for replies

I would not use anybody who claims to be free. You get what you pay for!! In California, in-home pet care runs $35-40 per overnight. Periodic checking is about $20 a day as is taking the pets to their house. Or you can look into boarding facitities (my least favorite choice).
Good luck. It isn’t easy. Now that I have 3 dogs, I am pretty much resigned to staying home.

iam a retired dog groomer of 9 years and i want to start my own business of pet sitting i work part time on week ends as a dog bather but i want to make more money on the side do you have to go to school to become a certified pet sitter? and i have to were is the school? or do i not need to be certified.

There is no "certified" when it comes to pet sitting.

If you want to be legit then you will need a business license and insurance and a place that is legal to keep the pets when being paid.
