Is it possible to get employed somewhere that requires experience, but you haven’t had experience?

October 292009

Has that ever happened to you? I want to work at a pet care, they do pet day-care and grooming. They also do veterinary services but I’m 17 and I know I need to go to school for that. I’m hoping they’d hire me regardless of experience because I’m home schooled and available when ever. Is it possible I could get hired?

You sound very motivated and found a place you are interested. First write a basic resume and prepare what you will say when you go to talk to the manager at the store. Dress well, in clean clothes and preferably no sneakers/jeans/short skirts. To meet employers always dress and wear makeup/hair conservatively -no revealing clothes or too much makeup.

Go in, ask to talk with manager, give him/her your resume and tell them why would be great for the job "I’m very motivated to work hard, I’m dependable and always on time, I love animals, and I’m eager to start working". Tell a story about how you helped an animal or did a good job somewhere like selling cookies at a bake sale. Think of something that you are proud of or when someone told you you did a great job.

When I interview and hire, sometimes personality wins over experience. Good luck! I would interview you, you sound awesome!

Why does my puppy bark at me when we’re sitting around?

October 292009

She gets regular (lengthy) walks as she’s a black lab and they need lots of excersise.
She’s been fed when she does this.
She’s been played with for hours.

Is she just trying to get even MORE attention? Sometimes she even barks at me if I’m on the phone or watching television. Is she simply attention obsessed? lol

Yes. She is attention obsessed. She has learned that when she barks, she gets fed/played with, and since she wants attention so much, she’ll just bark until she gets what she wants. Just ignore her, she’ll stop eventually. You have to outlast her, otherwise she’ll have you whipped for the next 12+ years.

How long are you willing to leave your dog home alone?

October 292009

Whether you’re going to work or Hawaii, after how many hours do you decide that your dog(s) need a doggie daycare, kennel, pet sitter or other accomodations?

Of course, this varies depending on your living situation and individual dog. For example, a 1-year-old Border Collie left alone in an apartment may need a daycare or dog-sitter after a few hours while an owner of a Great Pyrenees living on a ranch may leave the dog overnight or longer (with proper food and care).

Good question.

My fiance and I leave them alone for the day while we are at work (between 6-9 hours). They get one day of doggy day care a week (any more is just too expensive with 2 dogs and a 3rd about to start going after getting spayed). Other than that, they are NEVER left alone. If we need to go somewhere together on the weekend, my sister comes over to be with them.

Call them spoiled… I just feel too bad leaving them alone as much as I do already.

What bus company will allow me to bring a cat on board?

October 292009

I’m looking to bring a cat from Long Island, NY to Boston, MA. If I put this cat in a travel-crate and make sure it keeps quiet, what company will allow me to bring it on the bus?

None. Cats smell

What is the name of the art painting with a dog sitting faithfully by a dead man?

October 292009

It’s called faithful companion or something, and it’s a painting of a dog standing guard over the dead body of his master.

The artist that first comes to mind is Sir Edwin Landseer(1802-1873), I think he did a few paintings of faithful dogs, certainly one called ‘The Faithful Hound’ c.1830

Pet Boarding??? I’m not sure what to do!?

October 292009

I am thinking about boarding my two large dogs when we go on vacation in a couple months for about a week. I haven’t made up my mind because I am very nervous about leaving my dogs! I love them and do not want them to be mistreated in any way. I have done my research and chosen the boarding facility with the best reviews, but I’m still not set on my decision!
Have any of you boarded your animals? Would you do it again? Please share good or bad experiences!!!
Thanks!

I’ve never ran into a problem when I have had to board my dog(s). I have used kennels and also "Bed & Biscuits", where they stay in a home instead of a kennel.

Make sure your dogs are up-to-date on all vaccinations & make sure they have recent Kennel Cough vaccine.

Be sure to tour the facilities that you plan to use, ask lots of questions and get references. It is good to build a relationship with the kennel owner long before you need to use their services, that way if an emergency ever comes up and you have to find a place to board your dogs on short notice, they will know you and you will know their rules and fees.

How can I get the word out there, that I am a great pet sitter, in a place where no one knows me?

October 292009

So, I can start pet sitting again!

If you are licensed, insured, and bonded, talk to your vet. Most maintain lists of recommended pet sitters/ boarding kennels that they give to clients looking for that sort of thing. If you’re a responsible pet owner with a good relationship with your vet, they should be happy to place you on the recommended list.

If you don’t have a business license and the proper insurance, use caution when advertising. Around here, placing up fliers can get you targeted for a hefty fine if you don’t have the proper business license to operate.

Suggestions on geriatric pet care for my 13 year old sheppard mix?

October 272009

He has four vets, accupuncture, massages, hydrotherapy, vitamins and other supplements. Pretty much the best care that he can get. I wanted to know what else could I do? He has come with me everywher since he was a puppy. He has a bike trailer,a wagon and a trailer for my riding mower. He goes to the beach twice a week, goes walking twice a day. I just wanted to know what else could be done.

me again, how much would you reccomend in one sitting pro plan puppy?

October 272009

hi i feed 3 time aday. is that too much. also i give about acup each of proplan, a small coffee cup (size guide). how much would you give. just to know thanks
jack russell
THnaks thats great

Read the bag. All dog foods have a feeding chart printed right on the back of the bag that tells you how much you should be feeding per day based on age and weight. Take that amount and divide it by three…that will tell you how much you should be feeding at each meal. Start at the low end of that range (remember, dog food companies want to sell as much dog food as they can…it is not uncommon for them to recommend more food than most pet dogs actually need) and if he seems to be getting too light increase the amount a little. Also, go to the dollar store and buy a cheap plastic measuring cup. Throw away the coffee cup (or put it back in the cupboard and go back to drinking coffee out of it) and measure out the amount of food you are feeding using the cheap plastic measuring cup. When the bag says to feed one cup of food, they mean one standard 8oz measuring cup, NOT on cup out of your kitchen cabinets (which could be any size from 6oz up to 32oz or more). Most owners overfeed their dogs because they guess at how much food is in one cup…and when they actually measure out the amount they are often quite surprised to find just how much they have been over-feeding.
