Pet Sitting for Philadelphia Pets! 

I am friends with a young married couple who are going to be away this weekend on their first anniversary. They asked me to watch their pets (1 full grown cat and a 4 month old puppy). The catch is, they want me to stay at their house during the weekend so the pets will be able to be out of their kennels for most of the day.

My question is: what would be a fair rate for looking after the animals while living at their house for the weekend? I wouldn’t really worry about it so much if I was just looking after the pets. But, I live quite a ways outside of town, so I wouldn’t be able to go back to my house over the weekend.

The places around here charge something like $15 for a visit. It’s going to depend on your area. For staying there and handling a puppy, I’d say at least $30/day since you will be staying there.

More if it means other costs, like meals, will be higher than if you were at home.

If we had a house sitter I’d be willing to pay like $25/day.

how many people who work 5hrs plus per day, who own active pets and would apprieciate a "doggy day care" type establishment to take care of their pets through business hrs? oz only. its just that i am regularly noticing people getting bagged out for owning a dog but working most days. hellllo, these are dogs, not children. Because i work gives me the money to adopt the animal in the first place, desex it, feed, worm and vacc, chip it. Buy it toys and meaty bones to keep it occupied while im earning the money to house it (it would be cheaper to backyard breed, cos then i could quit my job!!! HELLO) , anywhoo, im hoping my hours will increase so i can get a raise and adopt, desex another one. when i decide to have children i will limit my wrk hours to suit my human family, if my pet cant handle it til then, he can go back to the pound.
this is for sophylakes, your dogs have adjusted to your routine perfectly it sounds like. That was my point. To the people who think us dog owners MUST dedicate ALL our time to our pets, even to the point of not having jobs!! that opinion is a tad over ott. as for de-sexing, let me say the word again for you DE-SEX. Again, i refer to the fact that our furry friends are not human, that is why its called, DE-SEXING. although, the reason for this operation, whether humans or animals is the same. how many DE-SEXED dogs have you seen making love just for the heck of it??

He’s allergic so we’re looking for a hypoallergenic one. We puppy sat once and it didn’t go to well and he said that he’d think about it. PLEASE HELP!!

Standerd Bred poodles dont have pet dander like other dogs they have hair like us, they’re usually used as seeing eye dogs to people who have allergies

I am thinking about starting my own pet walking business for now and I am thinking if it does well I will add some more pet care such as sitting, taking pets to the vet, grooming at home and ect. I was wondering if anyone has any catchy names for my business. People call me Med as my nickname so I was thinking maybe I could incorporate that into my business name somehow. Any suggestions?

Our pet sitter did a really great job this year, and I’d like to give her a Christmas gift. I think cash or a check would be the best option. Every time I hire her, I usually spend between $100 to $150 total on her services. Is $50 too little, about right, or too much for an end of the year gift?

It really depends on how large the tank is. If it’s rather small changing it once or twice a week would be recommended. If it is larger, it might only be necessary to change it every two weeks.

i have a 1 month old rottweiler puppy.. is it ok to train him to sit now? when is the rite time to train him to sit.. i do tell him to sit n he follows at times.. sometimes he is just so playful and dont listen .. please help me.

As to your question: YES – start now !!

I feed a raw diet and currently have a litter of pups. Since they were 4 weeks I’ve started to train them. For the sit you teach it the same as you would an adult – either by reinforcing the naturally occuring behaviour or to induce the behaviour with a treat.

(1) Reinforcing the naturally occuring behaviour: When playing with the pup and it sits by itself say ’sit’ as quickly to the action as possible then praise.

(2) Induce the behaviour with a treat: I use a little meatand hold it close to the pup so it smells it then move the piece backwards and over the top of its head slowly – this will make the pup sit and as soon as it does so, say the word ’sit’ then give treat and praise. If it doesn’t work jst try again – don’t scold.

Don’t try it when you first start playing with it – wait until he’s a little more tired and settled.

Please give me your input on these topics I live in a town where you are only suppose to have 2 dogs to a house but I love my little yorkies and they are spoiled rotten! They run the house while I am at work and are treated great! But I have 3 which as you can assume causes a problem. I am wondering if I get a commercial kennel licence if this will solve some of my problems?

I feel the number of dogs a person should own should be by the number they are able to care for properly. Now the real issue would be who decides what each person could handle? I have seven dogs and right across the street is a different township. They are only allowed two. You wouldn’t believe how many try to turn me in out of jealousy. The game warden and I are on a first name basis. He doesn’t even come anymore, he just tells them I dont live in the same town. The reason these laws are put in to place is people dont care for their dogs and it became necessary to make rules without singling certain people out. People are the problem not the dogs.
