Pet Sitting for Philadelphia Pets! 

My boyfriend and I both have cats (I have 2 adult cats and he has 3 older kittens). Usually we pet sit for each other whenever one of us goes out of town, but this summer we are going to visit my parents in Texas together. We have left the cats at home alone before, but only for a weekend. I need to find a pet sitter or kennel that will take very good care of our cats. All of the cats are rescues, and tend to be very scared of strangers and other animals. The cats get along very well with each other and if possible I would like them to stay together. I want the cats to be somewhere safe, and with kind nurturing people who will take good care of them. I know I seem overly concerned about the cats, but I wont be able to relax and enjoy our vacation if I am constantly worrying about the cats.

Hi Kayla… if you have a trusted friend who is responsible to follow your instructions, this would be likely the best avenue to consider if this is possible.

Kennels can be a very stressful environment for pet cats as they are territorial creatures by nature. By removing them from what is familiar they will become overwhelmed as a result even if the caretakers are nurturing. Even though they are shy whenever anyone comes over, it is less stressful than being boarded in a kennel environment.

If you do not have anyone there that you know, you could consider a pet-sitting service. Be sure to check that the pet sitter’s are licenced and bonded and can provide documentation that you can call to confirm that they are. How far out of your way would you be willing to go to drop your pet off at a hotel/kennel? Time wise.

whatever it took my 2 dogs are my family my life they’ve been there when iv had no one and they’ll always love me unconditionally they are truly my world and id do anything for them ,,, lol even my new girlfriand had to be told my dogs will never be pushed aside no matter what the circumstances any one that wants to be with me has to accept it ,,,

It will be a a breakthrough in animal care in my country, nothing like a dog hotel or day care here. It will be operating from my house which has plenty yard space. Any Design plans? I need all the help i can get, as a 22 year old aspiring. I want to have supplies available, kennels, i am working already on the finance to get it done. Where can i get the cheapest pet supplies? Or even online advice from concerning my new career opportunity.

I am starting a Companion Animal Training Company and in my three year plan hope to have a full running kennel, dog training Arena, etc. At the moment I am only doing in home dog training/fixing companion animal behavioral issues and would like some cool/creative names. Any ideas would be great.

Make sure it is something that will fit nicely as a domain name. Your domain name will be your business name. Use that as your guide. Try out some names as domain names first to see if they are available.

Are there any reliable kennels in Sharjah to board my 2 labradors while i go on a vacation I have read about some very distrubing incidents of dogs being put to sleep or killed as they are considered unclean.. Do you think that they ALL come from backyard breeders? Or are a few from people whose female, un-spayed dog accidentally bred with another along a walk? Or are some pet shops linked with breeders who actually care about the puppies and hands them to the pet shop to sell?

And why are pet shops allowed to sell puppies anyway? They don’t really get enough attention and socialization and some take ages to be bought and that would mean staying in its kennel for a while on its own if its siblings have been sold already.

99% are from Puppy mills
1% are from backyard breeder/Accidental Litters.

Petshop are linked to Puppy mills-Licenced breeders-that do NOT care. All they care if making money and cutting all costs associated. So these licenced breeder do not vacinated, do not vet check, do not deworm, no socialisation, and even the pup and parents are 1/2 starved to keep cost down. The parents are bred EVERY possible heatcycle.
Petshops will pretty much sell to anyone who comes through the door as long as they have the money. That why so many petshop pup die with Parvo and numerous other diseases.

Good breeder do not sell to petshop because they want to know there pup is going to a good home, and want the potential owners to see the ideal living conditions.

Yes puppy mill do occur in Australia. There was an episode on RSPCA animal rescue last tuesday of a puppy mill in Newcastle NSW. Unfortuantly the RSPCA raided the place and continue to let the miller breed and only remove a few of the dogs. I was quite surprised they actually allowed her to continue to breed and keep most of her dogs and she had over 100. However not all puppy mill in australia fit the cage profile with have what we call open mill, still have 1000 of dogs and still uncared for.

i’m looking for a job with animals and i already work at a dog kennel but i want to work in a store because the kennel job is only seasonal, so what is a pet store that just doesn’t strictly sell supplies but sells pets also.

You’ll need to go through your local yellow pages and find a smaller, mom & pop type operation. Often time, the big chains like PetSmart and Petco won’t hire under 18 because of liability issues. Start shopping there frequently and let them get to know you. At the same time, find out as much as you can about them. If they buy the pets that they sell from commercial breeding operations, you really don’t want to work there. Puppy mills = yuck!

Another option that you might consider is an apprenticeship with a groomer or a trainer. You wouldn’t be paid much (or at all) at first, but you would be working with animals, and learning a valuable trade.

How much would you charge for pet sitting over Thanksgiving for a 1yr old chihuahua?

I applied for a "doggy daycare" as a care taker. They charged $25 a day but this was a full service facility with vets on call, grooming, alone time with the pet etc. If your just doing this out of your home I would think about $10 to $15 a day provided you can show your potential customer some references and provide a safe loving place for your potential customers pets. Hopefully you can build a client base and with more experience you can raise your rate.

Ok i was having this discussion with my mum yesterday. On the 9th of Jan my parents have to stay overnight in Wolverhampton for some wedding do. I can’t go someone has to stay and be with the dogs. Now i’m happy to look after the dogs don’t get me wrong. But i was like telling my mum ‘cant we find some hotel that allows pets so we can take them with us’ and my mum was like ‘they’ll get sick, like they did in the kennels’

So i didn’t argue with her. But i wanna know what you think? Could it happen?

do’nt get me wrong i’m happy to stay with the dogs, if i wasn’t, i wouldn’t be a dog owner. But i feel terribly left out and i wanna enjoy the party too

If your dogs are UTD on their vaccinations and on flea preventative, they have about the same chance of getting sick in a dog-friendly hotel room as they do at your local park or on a walk around the block. The risk is there…but it’s no greater than the risk of taking your dog for a walk where other dogs have been.

Kennels keep a lot of dogs, usually in pretty close quarters. That’s the perfect environment for things to be passed from dog to dog, so I think the risk of a dog getting sick in a kennel is higher than in most other situations.

I have stayed with my dogs at many pet-friendly hotels and vacation homes and never had a problem.

I’m going to be flying next week and need to find a 22" L x 14" W x 9" H pet kennel for my cat.
