How much do you get paid for baby sitting?

February 22010

i never have baby sat before but i did puppy sit for my sister for 2 days and got paid 25$
hoe much do u get paid for babysitting?

Your rate will depend on your area, number of kids, and ages. I tend to charge 7$ an hour for 3 kids. If I have a newborn or toddler I charge an extra dollar. I am a little on the cheaper side because of the economy which is keeping people from going out often. If I charge a little less, I get more families that want me to sit because, after all, babysitting is actually very expensive! When I get more families though, I actually get the better end of the deal! I recommend going to this website: http://babysitters.sittercity.com/rate_calculator.html They will give you the rates depending on your area and the number of kids you are babysitting. However, this is the MAX amount you should set. I recommend doing somewhat less.

Example: For me it said charge 9$ for 1 kid with a sitter that has 0-1 years experience. From then on it adds a dollar for every extra kid.

P.S. I personally always keep it at 0-1 years experience no matter how long you’ve done it.

My puppy likes sitting out in the freezing cold. Is that safe?

January 162010

It’s 30 degrees outside. This past weeks it was around 15!!! My 7 month old shihh tzu likes to go out and sit on the porch in the cold. We don’t put a sweater on him yet. Is it safe for the dog to go out in this weather?

NO!!! its not SAFE! Your puppy could catch a cold!!

I’m sure you dont want it shaking and with a fever later…

How could puppy-walking/sitting influence creative writing?

December 252009

Actually, you could write a story about the interesting things that happens while you’re doing this…or you could observe and study the behaviors of the puppy and write a story from the eyes of the puppy (adventures with meeting up with a kitten or squirrel…). You could also use walking a puppy as a way of meeting new people, or having an excuse to sort of observe other people at a dog park or on the street or wherever you are, and write fictional stories about the people you come across…

I think there are many interesting things you could come up with, if you keep your eyes (and your imagination) open. :)

puppy-sitting for the first time..but I have a cat?!?

December 52009

My friend is vacationing in Florida this week & she left her puppy w/ me last night. She normally keeps her in the bathroom at night, with a puppy pad and her food ect. ..but she has been whining a bit. How can I make this more comfortable for her? I don’t have any dog experience, though her dog is familiar w/ me.
Also, i have a cat. I’ve had this cat for 5 yrs and she is not used to other animals, and thus far she has been hiding under the bed in my room. Will she adjust to this sooner or later?
The reason this is important is that in August, this friend (and her puppy) is going to be my roommate..

The puppy is going to be upset for a while because her owner left… but since the puppy and the cat are going to be living together it is important to introduce them to each other. The puppy should be fine because she’s young, she just needs to be introduced to the cat and she will soon accept the cat as part of her life. The cat might be more of a problem, just because she is older, and she’s not used to having to share you with anyone else… I think she will adjust, you just need to let her watch the puppy for a while until she figures out that the puppy will not hurt her, then she should stop being afraid.

since what age to train my puppy to sit?

November 272009

i have a 1 month old rottweiler puppy.. is it ok to train him to sit now? when is the rite time to train him to sit.. i do tell him to sit n he follows at times.. sometimes he is just so playful and dont listen .. please help me.

4 weeks is very young – I hope you have its Mum too

As to your question: YES – start now !!

I feed a raw diet and currently have a litter of pups. Since they were 4 weeks I’ve started to train them. For the sit you teach it the same as you would an adult – either by reinforcing the naturally occuring behaviour or to induce the behaviour with a treat.

(1) Reinforcing the naturally occuring behaviour: When playing with the pup and it sits by itself say ’sit’ as quickly to the action as possible then praise.

(2) Induce the behaviour with a treat: I use a little meatand hold it close to the pup so it smells it then move the piece backwards and over the top of its head slowly – this will make the pup sit and as soon as it does so, say the word ’sit’ then give treat and praise. If it doesn’t work jst try again – don’t scold.

Don’t try it when you first start playing with it – wait until he’s a little more tired and settled.

Good luck and have fun.

How do I stop my puppy from jumping on people while they’re sitting on the sofa?

November 252009

I’m trying to correct her behavior when she jumps on people while we’re standing, but how do I stop her from jumping on people while they’re sitting on the sofa? :| She keeps jumping on my parents (Putting her front two legs on my parents) and my parents don’t like it. How can I correct this behavior? :(

Training………..if she does this you need to tell your parents to stand up each time she does it, no looking, talking or touching her and keep doing it until she gets the message ( it can be set up using other people if you need to). Once the dog has settled then they can call her over ( in their terms) to stroke or treat.

If she is doing it when people are standing, then put a lead on her and let it trail, it is easy to just put your foot on the lead and you have control rather than the excited running around, talking/shouting at her to get down…and if you have quiet control instantly you can stop it.

Teach her to sit to greet people and ask them not to talk, touch or look at her……..the jumping up is anxious behaviour and all the touching, looking, movement, talking/shouting is making her more anxious.

How to get my puppy to quit stopping and sitting during walks?

November 202009

My 12 week old puppy is hesitant to go on walks, we entice her with treats or a chew toy to get her started but after a few feet she sits down and refuses to move forward. We think she’s too distracted with the outside world to wanna walk.

What are we doing wrong here?

I had this problem with my pup, part of the problem is they are getting used to being on a leash. The best method I found was to turn my back on her and wait for her to start walking again. Yes you sometimes have to wait for AGES! but, trust me this works, you have to be really really patient and continue where you want to go on the walk regardless of how hard she fights against you. You’ll probably also find that she starts whining and biting at the lead, this again is normal and the best thing to do is ignore it as you are both struggling for the top dog spot. A GENTLE tug on the lead every now and then is ok to let her know where you want to go, but whatever you do don’t pull her along the floor or shout at her, this will get you nowhere. Be careful not to give too many treats as she will come to expect this, just lots of fuss and a "good girl" is enough.

My pup is now 9 months old and absolutely loves her walks and has no problem at all with being on a lead. Patience and consistency is absolutely everything with this problem.

When’s a good age to start training a puppy sit and down?

November 172009

Housetraining For Dummies says it’s the best "first" thing to teach a pup, but gives no age to start. Anyone know?

It really does depend on the breed and the intelligence of the puppy too. We had lab puppies and started them at 6-8 weeks old and were able to start to learn. I found labs to be one of the easiest to teach. One your answers says three months and thats pretty much the right answer and basic for all breeds but don’t let that deter you to start earlier if you feel your puppy is ready and you have lots of love to give it and with some patience the younger they are of course. Please really enjoy your puppy, it’ll come back at you 10 fold.
