How much should we get for dog sitting?

August 132009

How much money should me and my friend get each for dog sitting for two weeks. We would be letting the dog out before school and making sure it gets food. Then when we get home from school we would be taking it to our house letting it run around taking it for a walk and then bringing it back at six and then checking on it again around 8.

I would say $5 a day is fair.

Possibly $10. Ask the owner what she is able to pay, and then you can negotiate around that. Just remember, be fair.

Since you are children, and not licensed, insured or bonded you can’t really charge much. I would say $10 a day at absolute maximum.

Before dog sitting, you’ll need to get a business license from your local city or county. You’ll also need to be bonded and have a liability insurance policy, to cover you, should something happen to the dog while in your care. After you do this, you can figure out how much to charge. I really don’t know of anyone who trust their dog to a child. What are your qualifications for dog walking? Are you well educated when it comes to first aid for dogs? Do you have a first aid kit made up that you’ll take with you during the walks? Would you know how to handle situations, such as dog fights, or uncontrollable dogs?
