i wanted to know how to advertize for a dog walking/pet sitter service and how much a person is willing to pay. im in austin, texas
I’m in the North Chicago Burbs. I pay my Pet Sitter $17 a day for my 2 dogs, she is there from 45mins-1 hour (Longer if she brings her dog along to play!). She walks the older one, then plays with both the older one and the puppy in the yard when they get home.
She is Bonded, Insured, a Member of the International Association of Pet Sitters, Certified in Animal First Aid and very knowledgeable in training practices. I trust her fully with my dogs AND the keys to my house!
At this point, most of her advertising is covered by word of mouth. You could also put up flyers on community boards of Pet Stores, Supermarkets and Vets (if they’ll let you).

I’m in downtown Chicago (much higher cost of living than Austin) and my dog walker only charges me $10 per visit. the visit includes walking him for 25 minutes, giving him fresh water. If the weather does not permit walking, she plays with him about 20 minutes in the house. She also cleans up any accidents he may had on the peepad. She’s amazing! I know she’s much cheaper than other dog walkers in the city.

put in in your local newspaper…as for wanting to know how much a person is willing to pay find out what the going rate is…maybe your local vet might have an answer to your questions also.

Advertise in your local papers. Also make some flyers and take them to the local vets, pet stores, etc. Look at other pet sitters ad to determine the price. If you’re new at this you’ll not be able to charge as much.

I would use the newspaper.Or making some buisness cards and going into local buisneses and petshops and ask them if you can put your card on one of their bulletin boards or maybe leave some on the front counter.

One way to get the word out is http://www.care.com It’s free to join. You just sign up, fill out the profile information and a background check, and your profile will be posted to the site. You’ll be notified of people looking for pet sitters/dog walkers in your area and will be able to view their profile. If you find one that sounds like it’ll work for you submit your application and hopefully they’ll respond and you can go from there. As far as pay goes everyones different and people will generally have what they’re willing to pay per hour posted to their profile, if its lower then what you want then you just don’t apply for that job, if you don’t really care then whatever you decide to do. Just remember to check in on a regular basis and pay attention to your messages, because its likely people will find you and message you about jobs as well.
Hope that helps!
